50mm Lens Meetup

50mm Lens Meetup

Saturday 27 April
Urangan - 8am - 2 Hours
Neil Medland
The 50mm lens is one of the flexible and useful lenses in any photographer’s gear bag. It is neither a wide-angle or telephoto lens, but allows the camera to see on the same scale as your eye. As such, it can be used for a variety of styles, from landscape and street photography to portrait and product photography. In this meetup, we’ll review the basic camera settings. We’ll then cover some of the advantages of shooting with a prime lens, and some basic techniques to using the 50mm lens. As always, there will be ample opportunities for you to put your new knowledge into practice.

This is my second class I?ve attended with Neil and it was fantastic! Each genre of photography is so different, landscapes in general is something I really struggled with and wanted to better understand how to achieve more interesting shots. So I decided to join the sunrise and sunset classes in hopes to gain new skills and further my learning. I couldn?t believe how much I?ve learnt already from these classes and I am much more confident going out and putting what I?ve learnt into practice. I highly recommend these classes to anyone wanting to learn more about photography, regardless of your level of experience. Neil is a great teacher and he will happily answer any and all of your questions you may have. It?s also great to go out with a group of like minded and friendly people who are there to learn too. Looking forward to many more future classes, trying some new genres, to have some fun and expand my knowledge.

    PHOTOGRAPHERS
    Neil Medland
Neil Medland is a Photographer with over 30 Years' experience. What started out as a hobby taking Lanscape and Wildlife photos soon switched to becoming a Professional photographer back in 2010. Starting out as a Sports Photographer with local AFL clubs, and Baseball clubs, we eventually went on to become the official photographer for Softball Australia. Our photos became so popular, that we were approached in 2011 to do a wedding. To say the couple were happy with the results would be an understatement. We soon became very sought after and then turned our attention to Weddings.

Over the past 15 years we have covered all aspects of photography. We have photographed Sports, Weddings, Family Portraits, Product Photography, Models, Graduation, and Events. In 2020 we moved to Hervey Bay and our focus has switched back to where it all started, Landscape Photography. With so much knowledge at our disposal we have recently started teaching and sharing this knowledge with fellow photographers.

While visiting Cannon Beach, Oregon for Spring Break this year, we were treated to beautiful blue skies, warm weather, stars AND airglow at night! I was absolutely giddy about seeing those stars! Now I hope you all know how extremely rare this combination is on the pacific coast in spring. It's normally overcast and raining and definitely no stars to be seen. Thank you universe for allowing your magic to flow this evening. I truly appreciate you and your powers ??

to create this I used a piece of Teal vinyl for the backdrop, I had the camera, with a 30 mm Marco lens on a tripod set to manual focus, with focus staking of 10 shots I only used 5 in the end). for lighting I had two static lights on mini stands so I could play about with their placement to get the effect I was looking for. The dandelion seed was held in place, by putting it into a piece of white tack, I then sprayed it using a little electronic face atomiser (bought from Amazon) and loa

Decided to make a composite that resembles the photo that NASA took with their millions of dolllar photo equipment. 2 months ago I photographed the full moon and placed it on top of the most recent solar eclipse photo I took. The moon normally get its light from the sun so getting the perspective with moon visibility is impossible during an eclipse unless you have nasa gear. My photo was taken with a canon R5, RF400mm F2.8 and cropped in.
