Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.

Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations in Hervey Bay .

  • New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month. And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

  • Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

  • What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Join the Hervey Bay Photography Group on Facebook to share your photos after the session.

This is a fluke of a Mumma Humpback Whale. I spotted her in the Bay in September 2024 with our capable Captain Phil House. She is known on the Happy Whale site as Humpback Whale HW-MN1100513. Photographers submit their photos and then the whale can be tracked through our waters, it is pretty cool to have been able to contribute to this. First sighting of her was 09/09/2014 in QLD and the last was 06/10/2024 in NSW. Every year I head out to watch these majestic creatures and to see them rest

We have a resident python who every year stays curled up in our shed. I was lucky enough to be home when we decided to venture out during the day. So with camera in hand a trusty ladder, I was able to get up close and personal with my mate Clyde.Taken on a Canon 80D, auto ISO, f8 and shutter 250.

I took this photo back in October of 2012, we were camping at Carnarvon Gorge and I had my old nikon D7000 camera with me which was new at the time,as I was exploring, I seen this movement out of the corner of my left eye, and when I realised it was an Echidna, I was so excited. He was not bothered by me as he was to busy searching for his ants it that log.So I quietly got closer and took a couple of shots.Iwas so happy to encounter such a beautiful mammal.

Title or Location: Maryborough Show Grounds.
My friend and I decided to take our cameras out the Maryborough Show and try out some long exposures. After work and by the time we got through the car park, it was getting dark. I couldn't believe the results of the patterns and images the lights formed in the night sky. This is just one of the rides which I called "The World on a Truck". It's hard to believe that there are people in there spinnning around, laughing and having a great time. I did too that night although I had my feet firmly pl

I've made multiple attempts at this picture trying to make something suitable for a wall art panoramic. My first few chances it did not have enough pixels. So when I was lucky enough to go for work I walked the 3 miles to try it again. I was fortunate to have the sun break through and create two different rainbows and a fantastic scene for all. I sat there for 2 hours hours capturing the same image in different phases of the evening and this is my favorite as it highlights the red, white and

Title or Location: Taken in my backyard, where I feed many birds who inhabit the woods behind my home in Burke, VA.
A family of chipmunks has found my backyard bird feeders to be an easily accessible source of tasty food. They eat relatively small amounts, leaving plenty for the birds.
